Paying your rent service agreement

People count

We will:

•  Give you a polite welcome and treat you courteously and efficiently.

•  Publish our opening times.

•  Answer all telephone calls as soon as possible, and wherever practicable within five rings.

•  Publish the timescales for delivering the service.

•  Respect your needs in relation to age, gender, sexuality, disability, race, colour, ethnic or national origins.

•  Deal with queries or complaints within ten working days.

•  Positively seek your views on the service you have received and consider any changes you feel are needed.

  Our promise to you

•  We will make it as convenient as possible for you to pay your rent. To find out how you can pay your rent click here .

•  We will offer you the facility to pay other Rochdale Council bills at our cash offices, including Council Tax, United Utilities Water Rates & Street Cred Credit Union.

•  We will review rent levels annually and always give you 28 days notice of any change.

•  We will issue each tenant with a new Rent Payment Card annually before any payments becoming due.

•  We will accept rent payments with or without your Rent Payment Card.

•  We will credit payments to your rent account within 24 hours.

Your responsibilities

•  Your tenancy is a weekly tenancy and your rent becomes due each Monday. You can pay your rent any day during the same week but you must make your payment by 4.45pm on the Friday otherwise you will be in arrears. If you do not pay your rent you risk losing your home.

•  Please look after your Rent Payment Card. It is your receipt for rent paid. Please do not fold or crease the card. We recommend that you keep previous years' Rent Payment Cards as evidence of your payments.

•  You should ensure the receipted amount on your Rent Payment Card is correct as this is your official receipt.

•  If payments are made without your Rent Payment Card you will be issued with a receipt, which must be kept as proof of payment. Your Rent Payment Card can be updated at your convenience by presenting the receipt at any Housing Office.

•  Your Rent Payment Card remains the property of R.B.H. and you must surrender it on request for audit purposes.
